What is Microblading?

Microblading is a form of semi-permanent makeup treatment/micropigmentation that deposits special medical grade pigments under the top layer of your skin. This technique involves creating tiny hair like strokes that create natural, fuller and thicker looking eyebrows. It is vital to get this treatment done by a certified aesthetician/cosmetologist for good and safe results. The expert uses a pen like tool fitted with 8-12 micro-needles which mimics realistic brow hairs by creating thin strokes.

Does it hurt?

The procedure causes mild discomfort however application of a topical numbing cream provides for an almost pain free experience.

Can you be allergic?

The pigments are not allergic. It is recommended to do a patch test before procedure.

How much it costs?

Prices vary based on expertise and area of coverage.

How long it lasts?

The effect lasts for a minimum 12– 36 months. However, a touch-up is required every year.

Post care?

· Avoid eyebrow makeup for a month.

· Avoid contact with water on the treated area for 24 hours post treatment.

· Use a good glycerine free moisturizer daily post 48 hours of treatment.

Procedure?

STEP 1: Shaping the brows -The artist prepares the area around the brows by threading the stray hair and cleaning up the area.

STEP 2: Numbing- The brow area is covered with a topical anesthetic, or numbing cream, which is left on for a certain period of time. The time it takes for it to kick in varies from one product to another, but some take as little as 20 minutes.

STEP 3: Preparing the pigment- The artist chooses a pigment shade that will work best for your skin tone and blend in with the natural hairs. Sometimes, the artist will mix a custom shade.

STEP 4: Measuring, mapping, and outlining - Certain features of the brow area are measured, and an outline is drawn, taking into account your face shape, symmetry, facial features, etc.

STEP 5: The blading process -The artist makes fine strokes through the skin using a microblading tool, and covers them with pigment. If there is any severe discomfort at this stage, another layer of numbing cream is added to the area.

STEP 6: Implementing the pigment - A final layer of pigment is added, after which the eyebrow area is cleaned.

STEP 7: The touch up appointment - As skin heals, it is common for a certain amount of pigment to be extracted as the scabbing stage ends. Once the skin has healed and the pigments have settled, the artist fills in the gaps where the pigment hasn’t taken or healed properly.

What is micropigmentation?

Micropigmentation, also called permanent makeup is useful to those who want get rid of the hassle of applying makeup daily. Lips are the most common treated areas for micropigmentation, which means that a needle is used for inserting pigment into the skin of your lips to look like permanent lipstick and also give an appearance of fuller lips.

STEP 1: Consultations- When you come to the appointment, ask your artist everything you need to know about the procedure and the aftercare.

STEP 2: Choosing the shape and color - Then you will together choose the shape and color of your lips. The artist will use a pencil to outline your lips and once you are satisfied with the choice, the procedure can start.

STEP 3: Numbing - The artist numbs the area with the application of topical anesthetic in order to lessen the pain.

STEP 4: Pigmentation -Pigmentation means insertion of the pigment into the first layer of your skin.

STEP 5: A touch up - After your lips are healed, which usually takes 2-4 weeks, you should book a follow-up appointment. The artist will make some adjustments, add some color if it didn’t set in and round up the final look of your lips.

You should avoid or reconsider micropigmentation if you:

• Are pregnant or nursing

• Have hyperpigmentation

• Use medicines that are known to be blood thinners

• Have diabetes

• Have any bleeding disorders

• Have an auto-immune disease

• You have anemia (pigment may not retain properly)

• Have a history of keloid or hypertrophic scarring

• Are undergoing chemotherapy

Aftercare

Your lips will be swollen and dark after the procedure. The aftercare period lasts 5-7 days, during which you should do the following things:

• Use Vaseline or glycerine free lip balm with SPF to nourish your lips.

• Clean them with a cotton pad and a little bit of water after every meal.

• Don’t wear any makeup for a week.

• Avoid spicy food. It is also recommended to take beverages on a straw and avoid food for two days.

• Do not rub, scratch and peel the area.

• Don’t expose your lips to the sun, hot tubs, tanning beds, saunas, swimming pools.

Can I Wear Makeup After the Permanent Lipstick Treatment?

Under no circumstances should you wear lipstick immediately after the treatment. You must wait until the healing period is over. Once your lips are not swollen anymore and all the scabs have fallen off, you can wear lipstick. Also, it is desirable not to wear any makeup in order to avoid it reaching the treated area and infecting it. Be patient for at least a week and after that, you are free to apply makeup.
